Srinagar, Nov 18 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Pensioners’ Organisation Forum (JKPOF) held a one-day convention in Srinagar, presided over by Abdul Qayoom Mani. The meeting raised concerns over the Eighth Pay Commission’s terms of reference and provisions of the Finance Bill 2025, which, according to them, have created serious apprehensions among pensioners across India. Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Forum's President and former EJAC Chief said that the government appears to be restricting the fundamental rights of pensioners. He said that the convention reminded authorities of the Supreme Court’s judgment in the D.S. Nakara case, which declared that pension is not a charity but a fundamental post-retirement right. The forum also passed a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister, highlighting pensioners’ grievances and demands. “The terms of reference and the provisions passed in the Finance Bill 2025 have caused great concern among pensioners across the country, as it appears that the government is trying to limit the fundamental rights of pensioners. It was recalled that the Supreme Court, in the D.S. Nakara case, has clearly stated that pension is not a charity, but a fundamental right granted after employment. In this context, a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister was also approved, highlighting the concerns and objections of pensioners throughout the country," Wani said—(KNO)
